(CNN) — Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele says his party is going to launch an "off the hook" public relations campaign that will update the GOP’s image by translating it to "urban-suburban hip-hop settings.
Steele described the new multi-platform PR offensive as “avant-garde, technically. It will come to [the] table with things that will surprise everyone — off the hook.” Asked whether that meant cutting-edge tactics, Steele demurred. “I don't do 'cutting-edge,’” he said. “That's what Democrats are doing. We're going beyond cutting-edge.”
I think this is more Mr. Steele's speed:
*Apologies to The Offspring
And blame Atta J. Turk for that video.

There's a reason they are calling it a "PR offensive."

Seriously, I'd like to be able to dance like that (i.e., with grace and smoothness vs. awkward klutziness). However, I may have just incurred permanent damage from the sight of those outfits!

Wow that's about when disco hit rock bottom!
Or was that even disco?
In any event it has Republican off the hook-ness written all over it!

And-a now here are the lovely Lennon Sisters, singing "I Can't Get No Satisfaction."

I still think the funniest Lawrence Welk video was when his prized pair of singers sang One Toke Over the Line - absolutely straight faced. The same goes for today's conservatives. They never listen to or comprehend the song's lyrics (Back in the Saddle Again - Eric Cantor?) but because One Toke had the words Sweet Jesus in it they figured it was just nifty. (It's on youtube if you dare)

All I want to see is John McCain get owned by Cheney in a break dance competition. And I mean "break" in the fullest sense of the word.

Uh-huh. The GOP is going to do hip-hop. This is a PR tragedy waiting to happen.

I always LURVED Lawrence Welk .. squaresville squared, squaresville as acid trip .. sheer greatness .. luved his accent ("da Plymout-a show") and that accordion guy .. luved trying to fathom my grandparents' brains on the stuff .. learned that even nerdy shit is great if the band's tight ..
For that matter I miss the hell out of Guy Lumbago .. now THAT bastard WAS new year's eve .. what's with this upstart Dick Clark dreck ..
Funny even as a kid I had an inner geezer or something .. but as an aspiring musician, was also learning to hear what well-arranged and -played was, even if dorkish to the max ..
Don't even get me started on the King Family Show .. of course I had my black light and Jimi Hendrix by then .. sigh, luved em both lol

Beyond cutting edge is air, if you think about it. Someone should tell the hippity-hoppity Michael Steele that when he uses a metaphor he should kind of know what the metaphor is about. Michael isn't being too hep to the jive here.

oh dear. flashbacks to the time of 5 channels!!!
Try THREE!
I had to watch this crap every Sunday evening at my house when growing up.
I absolutely fucking HATE LW. He may have been a very nice man, but he warped me in ways I can't even describe.
Oh and the GOP wouldn't be able to do hip-hop if they all died and came back as actual hip-hoppers.

It will come to [the] table with things that will surprise everyone
Not a doubt in my mind about that.
“That's what Democrats are doing. We're going beyond cutting-edge.”
