I guess all the 23%ers bought their copies already?

Not sure I get the joke. Amazon is matching Wal-mart's price on new hardcover books ($9.00).

It hits the remainder bins before it's even released??? Awesome!!!

Unfortunately, no. It's number 1 of the top 10 best selling preorders for hardback books, so Walmart is selling it for $9 and Amazon matched it.

Ah. Dammit, I thought they weren't moving 'em.

watertiger, they are hoping to sell a few more copies at $9 than what they would have otherwise... really who's going to buy some fire starter for $28.99 when they can get it for the bargain price of nine bucks?? Doesn't mean they are actually selling, just means they are trying to cut their losses.

That's still a discount of almost 62%. Is that normal?
Posted by: dan mcenroe | October 16, 2009 at 03:27 PM
Does this mean that the ghostwriter's been paid from proceeds? Is Sarah taking the hit on the discount? I know nothing about book-publishing, but this discount seems pretty steep.
Nice to know someone's nipping at Amazon's heels, even if it is Mall-Wart.

I think this is the next book in the 'twilight'* series... Where the vamp from the cold climes of Alaska bites the big one when smacked down in the "Amazon". Her professional twilight at laaaaast.
Elspeth
*(Personally, I totally enjoyed the actual 'twilight' series - yes, I'm a vamp/were story geek. They were fun reads and yeah, I adore the character of Edward Cullen)

Ah, the publisher is pressuring the major distributors.
Gotta remember that Harper Collins scheduled one helluva big initial run on this book--1.5 million copies.
What this likely means is that there was a fine flurry of interest in advance orders for a short while and that even though the numbers still look good because of that, the advance orders have started to shut down.
This could also mean that Harper Collins has a no-return policy on a percentage of the order, and the book buyers for the distributors bit off more than they think they can now sell.
WalMart doesn't have the book in stock yet, either, so if they're taking orders to sell at two-thirds off the retail price, something's definitely going awry.

pp 132-136 particularly ice-melting. She and what's his name the husband get it on after he hets her up by reading some pages from Foreign Affairs. Levi is watching though the window, making a youtube for blackmail purposes, but
Pilot,Trigger,Falcon, Squid ( the one they never mention in public), runs him down in the snow mobile and wrestles the camera out of his hands. Then they get it on like mink in the woods and come for Jesus. This sucker's gonna be in every frat house in the nation.

Hot damn, and I thought it was gonna be a bleak Xmas/Hanukkah this year...... It's a buy one get two free gift, for all those people you really dislike but hafta get a present for anyhoo....... Unfortunatly it doesn't come with crayons.

So, do the people (lobbyists, politicians, thinktanks) who preordered at $23 get to cancel... and buy it from the other outlet/remainder bin?
If anyone was thinking of giving it as a holiday gift, the sheer size of the printing is a warning. Pity the unfortunate College Republican (sniff) who receives several copies, and can't even regift them!

ROTFLMAO, the reader.

Wait until somebody reads the definition of rogue to Sarah and her pals...

It may have something to do with the publisher wanting to sell as many as possible, in order to get the book on the best-seller list, even if they take a loss. Amazon.com's #2 pre-sale is Stephen King's newest novel, Under the Dome: A Novel, priced $35 for hardcover. It's being pre-sold for $9 also.

I wouldn't use the paper that's written on for toilet paper.
