Hostess shutters its doors, blaming the union strike, and not the 70-80% raise upper management gave itself last year.
Hostess Brands Inc., which makes Ding Dongs, Wonder Bread and other snacks, filed a motion Friday with U.S. Bankruptcy Court seeking permission to shutter its operations. The move comes after the company said striking workers across the country crippled its ability to maintain production.
The closing would mean the loss of about 18,500 jobs. The company said employees at its 33 factories were sent home and operations suspended Friday and its roughly 500 bakery outlet stores will stay open for several days to sell remaining products.
No word on whether Sno-Balls will survive.

Maybe the real problem was that Americans are learning that Twinkies are really bad for them. Little sponge cakes filled with creamy preservatives.
Overpaid management, of course, blames the unions for the falling sales of these products that healthier eating habits have made obsolete. With those high salaries, it couldn't possibly be poor executive decision-making at fault.

When management goes to the bankruptcy court and begs for the company to be liquidated, you know they're a bunch of pompous fuck-ups....
