Never mind that the book can hardly be called "literature"...
A Philadelphia mother wants her son’s high school teacher fired after he bought the teen the novel Fifty Shades of Grey for in-class reading.
Ladson's son, who is a 9th grade student at Eastern University Academy Charter School in the East Falls section of Philadelphia, asked for and was given the book by his teacher and adviser Phillip Aidoo.
According to the school, Aidoo asked students for a list of books they would like to read during an independent reading period. Ladson’s son’s requested Fifty Shades of Grey. Aidoo then went online and ordered the book.
The teacher claims he was unaware of the book's subject matter. So here's my question: What ever happened to teacher-approved reading lists? You know -- the classics, like "To Kill a Mockingbird", or "Stranger in a Strange Land", or "The Joy of Sex"?
